Baiersbronn - Black Forest - Germany

We have just returned from four wonderful days in the black forest,

We flew into Stuttgart and rented a car, thats another topic, finding your hire car in amongst 500 others and speaking no german - forget it!

We proceeded the 100 km journey to Baiersbronn, which due to the undetailed map from the hire company, became 200km. As we entered the Black Forest Region it all became worth it.

Our accomodation at the Golden Rooster with indoor pool and Sauna was wonderful and very child friendly, the village was very picturesque and the church bells ringing made it something out of the sound of music, wrong region I know but similiar scenery.

The Enchanted Lake at Mummeleese was a must and very reasonable, we ate there twice, the water falls and toboggon runs were also great. We got on a train, which was free and got off about 20 stops later and found ourselves in the most wonderful village, steeped in history and charactor.

If anyone needs any tips, please feel free to shout

You should have stopped in a Shell gas station and got one of their large scale regional maps of the area. It shows all rural roads and interesting places to visit, at least months%26#39; or years%26#39; worth. When driving in rural areas the poor maps provided with the car are probably inadequate.

Thanks for that, I had a large European map (A6) size but left it at home assuming the map in the car would be adequate! Hey you live and learn.

Hi. We are looking at the Golden Rooster. Would it be good for slightly older children, ages 8 and 11. Or is it geared towards pre-school children?

Thanks,
