Gas for a rent a car

We will pick up a rent a car in Munich on our way out of the city during our upcoming trip. I can%26#39;t remember if there are signs on the Autobahn for upcoming gas stations or not. Are there? Just thinking ahead for when we have to return the car later.

Are there gas stations that are more expensive than others? I am prepared for the shock on the prices!! Been there, done that!

Thanks!

Plenty of autohofs, rasthofs, tankstellens on the autobahns. Can%26#39;t say if any company is cheaper than the other, but the Esso gas stations are used to dealing with Americans.

Yes - any that is on the autobahn.

You pay 4-5 cents more than in the same chain off autobahn.

I doubt an ordinary Esso gas station attendant has any more experience dealing with an American tourist than a Shell, Aral or OMV one.

All US Forces and US State Department personnel and their family members with drivers licenses who are permanently stationed in Germany have Esso gas cards. At Esso, we pay $2.87 cents per gallon, instead of the near $8 a gallon at any other station that the locals and foreign tourists pay. So yes, Esso has more experience dealing with Americans.

As you are coming back to return your car at the Munich airport, there is a gas station on the left side of the road coming in(less than a mile from the rental car return location). So you can wait and fill up right before you return the car. As you are traveling there are signs on the Autobahn letting you know where the next rest stop and gas station is and what the distance is til the next location.

Actually, I will be driving in from Salzburg to Munich returning the car near the Hauptbahnhof.

Thanks for the updates. Gas is more expensive at the exits here too in the states.
