Kell am See, Hunsruck, Germany

We are coming to Germany on June 27th 2008 and we will be staying at Landal Hochwald in Kell am See.

How far is the drive from Frankfurt Airport?

Is this resort nice?

Any suggestions on local attractions %26amp; activites for my children? I have a 13 year old boy %26amp; a 11 year old girl.

Is the lake good for fishing?

Should I just visit Germany or are there some interesting tourist attraction in France, Belgium, %26amp; Luxembourg?

Landal%26#39;s website says the resort is not really accessible by public transport so I assume you%26#39;re going to rent a car. It%26#39;s a 2 hours drive from Frankfurt airport.

Great sights esepecially for kids are the medieval castles along the Saar and Mosel river valleys. Definitely do a day trip to Eltz castle (www.burg-eltz.de).

Come to Luxembourg of course and visit the city.

Hermeskeil is not far and has a open-air aviation museum, definitely worth a visit for kids and adults.

P.S. don%26#39;t forget to fill-up the car when you are here, fuel is much cheaper.

That%26#39;s not far from Trier, the oldest city of Germany.

The listened sights are in Germany and Luxembourg. France is also not far, e.g. Metz. Belgium as such also, albeit the better known sights of Belgium are not that close.

We are thinking of making the same trip and staying at Landal Hochwald. What did you think the resort and the surrounding area. We would be taking our 7 year old daughter.

wardgarner:

We stayed at Landal Hockwald in summer 2008. The resort is laid out nicely but the units are not very kept. It was more like camping than a resort. The units are rustic A-frames. Our unit had 3 bedrooms, one down %26amp; 2 upstairs.

The stairs to the 2nd floor were dangerous. I fell part- way down them one day. The lake is nice %26amp; the pool is actually nearby, not on site. It a good place for horseback riding or biking. There is a restaurant/bar/game room on site. There is a indoor play area. Landal Hockwald is run by Dutch folks. There is a small store on site plus a few more small stores in Kell am See. Kell is a beautiful little town. If you do stay there I recommend you bring or rent a GPS. Of course you will need a German SD card if you bring your own GPS. We flew into Frankfurt, didn%26#39;t have a GPS %26amp; got lost several times. The Hunsruck area is beautiful %26amp; very peaceful. It is quite close to Trier %26amp; the Mozel River. While in Trier you are very close to Luxembourg. The villages along the Mozel are very quaint %26amp; beautiful. There are nice restaurants %26amp; good shopping. You should go to Burg Eltz, it is a beautiful castle. The Mozel has boat trips %26amp; lots of grapes (%26amp; wine). You are also quite close to the Rhine River. France is just an hour or so South of Kell plus isn%26#39;t far from the Black Forest area. I definitely recommend western Germany but there may be better resorts than Landal Hochwald. Enjoy your trip!
