Cologne Red Light District

WHere is the red light district? how big is it?

I%26#39;m taking my elderly mother to Cologne as she has always wanted to see the cathedral and want to ensure i avoid this area with her as i doubt she would approve.

No joke. I dont know Cologne at all and want to ensure that the hotel i book isnt in it or that we have to go through it to get to the cathedral.

AFAIK there is no red light district in Cologne worth the description.

Isn%26#39;t there a drive-in one somewhere? Wherever it is, if it is anything like Hamburg it will be well screened-off from elderly mothers and it is not a place that will be easily bumped in to :) It%26#39;s not in the centre, anyway, and certainly nowhere near the cathedral...

Took her to amsterdam a year ago to see the hidden church. She loved the church (despite the many flights of stairs) but nearly had a heart attack walking through the redlight ditrict to get there!

It is a wierd problem i know, but i thought this time better safe than sorry!

No idea about a drive-in one, but you can see the biggest brothel in all of Europe (with pretty obvious ads) from the train towards Aachen or Neuss.

Kitbhoy, if you go in that direction tell your mother to sit on the left side.

Make sure she never gets near a television -- nudity (and a little more) is common.

Make sure she doesn%26#39;t look at billboards or advertisements -- she might see a nipple or two, or a couple of cheeks.

Make sure she doesn%26#39;t look around on the shopping streets, as adult stores are common -- they are generally tastefully presented, but there%26#39;s no doubt as to what they sell.

I understand other generations, different morals, etc., etc. -- but you (and she) also can%26#39;t expect to insulate her from the world, especially when the part of the world you%26#39;re visiting is very frank about the human body.

Not only that - old(er) ladies tend to know far more about the subject than their children give them credit for.

there%26#39;s pascha that%26#39;s a massive brothel,but you won%26#39;t bump into that as it%26#39;s west of the city.you might walk past a few sex shops in and around town,but that%26#39;s it.there isn%26#39;t a district,or street where it%26#39;s rammed full of them.
