neueschweinstein castle

We will be in Munich from 5. till 8. August. We would like, besides other places, visit above mentioned castle. I have read, that it will be smart to order tickets (including bus trip there) on line, therefore we would avoid lineups of turists at the castle.

Please, could you advise myself, if it is possible.

Thank you very much.

...i think you mean %26#39;new swan stone%26#39; (Neuschwanstein)rather than %26#39;new pig stone%26#39; (Neuschweinstein)castle? ;)

Ordering your tickets on line is easy, if you know when you will be there, and will avoid lines of people without reservations. If you are coming from Munich, you can get to Neuschwanstein easily on the train and bus without advance reservations.

This is very possible. I did this day trip in May and it was great!

Ordering your tickets before you go is the smartest thing you can do. When you get to the ticketcenter you then stand in the much shorter %26quot;reserved%26quot; line for your tickets.

You can order your tickets here:

www.hohenschwangau.de/ticketcenter0.0.html

That website also has information on it about how to get there. It tons of other useful information as well.

You can take the train (the Bahn) to Fussen and then transfer to the bus. (The bus stop is right outside the train station and is very easy to do. You can just follow the other people doing the same thing). The Bahn%26#39;s website [bahn.de] is very helpful for planning a trip like this. It will give you times for the train and the bus.

The destination you would put in would be Hohenschwangau, Schwangau ... that%26#39;s the name of the village. Also, very important, check the box for %26quot;local transport only%26quot; this will ensure that you are looking only at the timetables for the trains where the Bayern ticket is valid.

I would recommend getting the Bayern Ticket (a one day ticket for all public transport in Bavaria; this includes the train and the bus to the castles). It costs 29 EUR and is good for up to 5 people. The ticket does not work before 9:00AM, so if you want to leave Munich before 9:00 (highly recommeneded) then you need to buy a ticket from Munich to the first stop after 9:00. The train/bus ride is about 3 hours, so leaving before 9:00am helps.

I%26#39;ve heard that the Neu. castle is under maintainence and the outside was cover up by grey canvas. Is the maintainence completed?

The exterior of Neuschwanstein, like most sights at any time in Europe, is currently under renovation. The side of the castle that faces the Marienbrucke does have scaffolding and a tarp, but I%26#39;d call the tarp more of a white/transparanet color than gray. That is the only part of the castle that has scaffolding, or at least it was in May.

The view of the castle from Marienbrucke is amazing and still something to do. You do see the scaffolding in the pictures, but the view from the bridge cannot be beat, even with the scaffolding.
