Driving the highways in Italy we found that AutoGrill offered tasty and reasonably priced food, clean bathrooms, and a nearby gas station that accepted a VISA credit card (unlike the ESSO%26#39;s that only accepted their own card.)
Is there a German equivalent on the AutoBahns?
Thanks!

There is not one single chain, but several different ones that offer pretty much the same service. Just follow the signs for %26quot;Autohof%26quot;

But to eat, why not just get off at a small town or village along the way and eat in a local restaurant, preferably one with a lot of local cars (can tell by license plate initial letters) parked nearby. But I doubt if many German restaurants will accept credit cards. We%26#39;ve actually never used either the gas stations or the restaurants on the autobahns, but there are ones spaced out along the autobahns.

For paying fuel at gas stations in Germany you can always use your credit card. Not only at the once at autobahns.
Fuel stations and restaurants along the autobahns are however more expensive than what you%26#39;ll pay in nearby towns. And it%26#39;s also easier to exit and return on a autobahn in Germany than from an Italian autostrada with its toll stations.

We found in Italy that the Esso%26#39;s only accepted the ESSO credit card--the others took the usual assortment.
We liked the AutoGrill as the prices were moderate (although probably more expensive than %26quot;in town%26quot;) and quick. Sometimes getting to the destination was more important than sightseeing or spending an hour plus for lunch.
Thanks for the information.

IMHO--When traveling, esp. in Europe, sightseeing and spending an hour or more for lunch is ALWAYS more important than getting to the destination...
