Bus travel?

Hi everyone, just a quick question about travelling by bus in Germany. We are going to fly into either Frankfurt or Munich in December and would find it a bit cheaper to travel to say Nuremberg,Regensburg and mybe even Vienna or Prague, by bus than rail. Any advice on bus companies doing these kind of route. As far as i can tell its not like Ireland or the Uk where Bus Eireann and National Express kind of do everything?

Long distance buses within Germany are almost nonexistent, they are usually used for local routes to supplement rail travel. EuroLines does travel to other countries from Germany, but I doubt that they are as convenient as rail. As you named three places within the German state of Bavaria, you can travel between them inexpensively using a day Bavaria group train ticket which will cover all trains (except fast long distance ICs, ECs and ICEs) and all local transportation in this state for a day for 29€, ticket valid only after 9AM on a weekday.

For other destinations, there are limited cheap tickets for 19€, 29€, 39€ 49€ first purchasable 89 days before travel where you are committed to a particular train and time, which sell out quickly.

For train information, see www.bahn.de , and then change to English near the top of the page. If using a Lander ticket such as the Bavaria one, select only local transportation, and the valid choices will be shown for this ticket.

Well, except to Prague bus is not an alternative to the train. Not on (almost all) domestic routes and only infrequently on international routes. For the latter check www.touring.de which is like National eExpress in UK covering all available routes.

%26gt;Any advice on bus companies doing these kind of route.

For domestic travel there is no bus services competing with rail.

From Munich to Regensburg and Nuremberg you can travel cheap on the Bavaria Ticket. EUR 28,00 for 2-5 persons.

Esp. to Nuremberg the regional trains are still traveling twice as fast as a bus can drive.

The Bavaria Ticket covers furthermore also the S-Bahn, U-Bahn (metro), trams and buses in both cities. You can buy the Bavaria Ticket on spot from ticket machines or at the counter (EUR 2,00 more expensive).

DB timetable

From: Munich

To: Nuremberg

To: Regensburg

and select as means of transport %26quot;only local transport%26quot; if you like to use the Bavaria Ticket.

From Nuremberg to Prague there is an express bus. Prices start from EUR 19,00 if you book in advance (through the DB timetable). You can book at earliest 89 days before departure. Due the timetable change in mid December maybe only even later.

From Prague (Praha) to Vienna (Wien) you can fairly easily get train ticket for EUR 19,00 through this site

https://eshop.cd.cz/international/info.aspx…

At earliest 60 days before departure.

Also for Vienna to Munich I would recommend the train. If you book in advance (through the DB timetable) you can get this for EUR 29,00. The RailJet (RJ) trains providing the direct connections between both cities are brand new trains.
