Berchtesgaden hotel choice

Hi, Iam trying to decide between two hotels in Berchestgaden. One is the hotel schiffmeister which is right on lake konigsee, and the other is hotel wittelsbach which is not on the lake, but in the center of town. Does anyone have an opinion on which hotel would be better, or an opinion on which location would be preferable? Is it more desirable to be on the lake konigsee or in the middle of berchestgaden a bus or taxi ride away from the lake? Both rates are similar. Thanks

Firstly, Hotel Schiffmeister is IN Schönau, right on the Königssee. Hotel Wittelsbach is in Berchtesgaden, which is about a ten minute drive from Schönau.

I stayed at the Schiffmeister this past May for three nights. I had a room with a balcony looking right over the lake and boat docks. That is the best thing going for this hotel because the rooms (at least my room) was VERY dated and the bathroom was ancient (old bath tub, hand-held shower head). I still very much liked my time there, but keep this in mind.

So, you are talking about either staying in Berchtesgaden or staying in Schönau. If you want to stay on the lake, the Schiffmeister is worth a stay IF you get a room with a view. The breakfast was adequate, but nothing to write home about. The rooms were clean. Again, if you stay there, insist on a lake-view room.

I don%26#39;t know anything about the Wittelsbach, but it seems like a nice place,and it has fairly good reviews.
