We have 5 nights to explore Eastern Bavaria and Franconia (well, 6, actually, but we need to stay in Wurzburg the night before we fly home). We will be arriving from Prague. Our plan is to do two nights in Regensburg, and 3 nights in Bamberg. It has occurred to me, however, that we could visit those two cities simply by settling in for five nights in Nurnberg and doing day trips. Generally speaking, I%26#39;m inclined to keep with the plan of staying in Regensburg and Bamberg as both sound nice, interesting and have good beer, but does anyone think it%26#39;s a mistake not to base in Nurnberg instead. I know, completely a matter of personal opinion, but thoughts are most welcome.....Thanks.

What about Munich??

It should work fine for you either way. Slip in a visit to Rothenburg for sure, and Würzburg if you have time.

Thanks, Russ. I will make a toast in your honor before the first rauchbier.....

Actually, I like your idea of Regensburg and Bamberg. There are good day trips from each, my favorite is the Kelheim day trip from Regensburg. That is the brewery of Schneider Weisse wheat beer and then a short boat ride up the Danube to the Weltenburg Abby. Awesome trip!

Thanks, Steve. Planning on doing the Kelheim-Weltenburg Abbey trip. If I%26#39;m reading your message correctly, the Schneider Weisse brewery is in Kelheim? I love that beer, will have to make a stop.
|||
Weltenburg has also a brewery. The oldest monastery brewery on the planet (since 1050). Which brews outstanding beer. A rather small brewery thus their beer is not easily to get elsewhere.

yes, if you are going to Regensburg make sure you take the time to go to Kelheim and cruise down the Danube to the Weltenburg Monastary. The Monastary itself is worth the trip, but you have the beer also.

Yes, thanks, Abalada, had actually planned the trip to the Abbey at your suggestion, just didn%26#39;t know that Schneider was in Kelheim.....

Thanks, bwelsted.
