Christmas Markets in a day?

Is it possible to arrive at 10.30am and leave same day at 7.30pm and be able to enjoy the Christmas markets in central Munich?

It would be a treat for a friend%26#39;s 60th birthday - I%26#39;ve never been to Munich before.

Yes, I think that spending a day at the market would be enough to get the idea, enjoy the sights, eat some treats, and have a great time. The one in Munich is quite large, but if you concentrate on the market at the Marienplatz you should not have a problem with time (9 hours is plenty).

If the weather is cold and you get rain or even snow, you%26#39;ll probably find that 2 or 3 hours at the christmas market is more than enough. But there is plenty to do and see in the city center so that you should be able to have a great day.

Thanks for both the speedy replies! On that basis I will go fo it.

The markets in Munich did not open til the afternoons when we were there in 2006 and 2008. It was early afternoon before they got going. But IMO, they are especially pretty after dark.

You could also do the same thing to other German cities. Stuttgart ( www.stuttgart-tourist.de ) has one of Europe%26#39;s largest Christmas markets ( www.stuttgarter-weihnachtsmarkt.de only in German), oldest, most visited, most beautiful with all the stalls highly decorated, and a lovely setting taking up much of the center of town by the Old and New Palaces and the Stiftskirche (church). It opens at 10AM, perhaps 11AM on Sundays. When it first opens there is plenty of time to visit many booths to shop before the crowds start arriving around noon. Stuttgart can be inexpensively accessed from London Stansted by GermanWings ( www.germanwings.com ), current prices now range from 0.01 to a few pounds. I imagine if they add on additional fees that the roundtrip cost will still be less than 80€, that%26#39;s what I usually pay flying them. There is a morning flight arriving about 10:30 and a return flight at 7:10.
