2 days and nights in Meersburg

in September. What would be the best use of our time. Thanks.

First, you can start with the sights in Meersburg ( www.meersburg.de ) itself: Germany%26#39;s oldest castle; Bible Gallery; City Museum; Prince%26#39;s Palace. Then a short distance away is the Pfahlbaumuseum, an outdoor museum of a reconstructed prehistoric fishing village built on stilts in the lake, and the excellent pilgrimage church at Birnau. You can take a boat across the lake to the garden island of Mainau. The UNESCO vegetable island of Reichenau is home to three early monasteries and their churches. You can also take the ferry to Konstanz, or take a boat to many other places. You can also go across the lake and up one of the peaks of the Swiss Alps there, such as Saentis.

You can easily spend several weeks at and nearby the lake ( www.bodensee-tourismus.com ) without running out of excellent things to see and do. You have numerous more things to choose from than what I mentioned, so what you really want to do should depend on YOUR interests. I can also heartily recommend a drive up to Sigmaringen with its large castle/palace ( www.hohenzollern.com) and then driving west along the idyllic Danube River through it%26#39;s gorge in the Swabian Alb ( www.schwaebischealb.de ) with lots of castles and palaces perched atop the cliffs, or a trip through Upper Swabia ( www.oberschwaben.de only in German) with Germany%26#39;s highest concentration of beautiful Baroque churches and monasteries and home to the Baroque Road. Your choices basically are unlimited.

I have the last hotlink wrong, it should be www.oberschwaben-tourismus.de only in German unlike the other websites.

Defintely take the ferry or a boat to the Insel Mainau (Mainau island). It%26#39;s an wonderful island with displays of flowers of all kinds. It also has a nice little palace (with coffee shop/restaurant) and an attractive old church.

Also check the Mersburg website for the date of their wine festival. The last time I was there I just happened to hit it. I bought an (empty) glass for, I believe, EUR5 and then could taste all the wines to my hearts content. There was a fun parade and everybody sat at long tables and had a great time.
