Sunday in Bavaria

My wife and I will be in Munich for four nights in September from Saturday through Tuesday and we will be doing two day trips to the alps region during that same period before moving on to Salzburg for two nights. I%26#39;m wondering what people suggest for Sunday.

Is it better to stay in Munich and do sightseeing on Sunday ..... or to do a day trip from Munich to Mittenwald or Schloss Neuschwanstein? Are the trains running less frequently on Sunday? Are Munich tourist sights generally closed on Sunday? Will Schloss Neuschwanstein likely be most crowded on a weekend and therefore it would be better to head there on Monday? How about Mittenwald ..... does Sunday in Mittenwald sound right?

Any day in Mittenwald sounds right. Guess I would have a plan for both on Sunday...if the weather is good head to Mittenwald, if not hit the museums.

If you are going to Mittenwald and want to do Neuschwanstein I would suggest a night in Garmisch or Fussen.

Sunday is a good day to visit in Munich. Most museums, etc. will be open (they are closed on Monday) and traffic will be much lighter.

If you like classical music, some of the churches have good mass performances during Sunday high mass (Hochamt). You can programs posted at the church doors.

When you head for Salzburg, be sure you use the Bayernkarte ticket. It%26#39;s good Munich to Salzburg, and you and your wife can travel for EUR28. Limit: Train after 9AM and only Regio trains (no IC, ICE, EC). Since the distance is short enough, it really does not make any sense to spend more money for faster trains.

Thanks for all the feedback. I%26#39;m still working on my plans and the comments are really appreciated.
