Driving Question.

We will be flying into Prague, Czech Rep. and renting a car to do some traveling there.

After touring the Czech Rep. we plan to drive into Germany.

Is a permit required to drive on the Autobahn and local roads in Germany?

Thanks for any information.

Do you plan to return the car in the Czech Republic or Germany? In case of the latter this will come with a possibly quite steep international drop off fee.

In this case - but also from the rental fees - I would check if returning in the Czech Republic, train across the border and renting again in Germany is not the better solution.

No. Apart from the usual (you will also need for the Czech Republic):

- your drivers license

- International Drivers Permit (a translation of your drivers license, you can get it for a small fee e.g. from the AA).

abalada,m as always, gave you the correct answer, except the IDP (International Drivers Petrmit) is available at your local AAA (triple A) not AA (Alcohol Anonymous)

Sorry, abalada

Yes, I mixed this up with the British AA.

They may issue IDPs as well (for British drivers). Albeit these have EU drivers licenses anyway and won%26#39;t need an IDP for the Czech Republic or Germany. Only for other parts of this planet.
