Cost & Ease of Trains to Munich?

Hi,

Thinking of visiting Munich for a concert around 20th November but flights to Munich seems to be a bit scarce.

Seen some flights to either Stuttgart or Zurich. How expensive and lengthy would those journeys be?

Thanks

Closer and cheap if you stick to regional trains.

DB timetable

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

From: Allgaeu Airport

From: Nuremberg Airport

From: Salzburg Airport

To: Munich

and select as means of transport %26quot;only local transport%26quot;.

Ryanair flies to Allgaeu Airport aka Memmingen Airport or %26quot;Munich West%26quot;.

Next best choices are Stuttgart and Frankfurt.

DB timetable

From: Stuttgart Airport

From: Frankfurt Airport

To: Munich

Best if you fly with an airline which sells you also a Rail%26amp;Fly ticket. E.g. Lufthansa, tuifly.com

bahn.de/international/…rail_fly.shtml

The connection from Zürich to Munich is not the fastest and as it is abroad also more expensive. DB timetable will also give you connections and prices from this airport.

For train information go to www.bahn.de , near the top of the page you can change it to English. Enter From: STR (Stuttgart flughafen) To: M (Munich hauptbahnhof) . The trip from Stuttgart Airport to the train station, takes about a half hour, and from there to Munich about another 2 hours. There are limited specials (such as the 29€ one) between German cities and other cities, they sell out quickly and first become available 89 days before travel.

Where do you fly from? If BHX, you%26#39;ve only got Lufthansa to Munich, but if you drag down to Stansted you%26#39;ve loads more. Easyjet is about £55 from STN; LH from BHX is about £90.

Not sure if flying to either STR or ZUR- or even Memmingen- would actually make economic sense by the time you add in train costs.

Lufthansa have MAN-MUC on 20/11/09 for just £99 pp return, and BHX-MUC for £100 return.

How cheap do you want?

...dont fluff around flying in to salzburg or memmingen or anywhere else... just buy a 60 pound easyjet ticket and fly straight into munich... thats bloody cheap... you cant drive to munich for that price from the UK! and saving a few pounds with ryanair to some weird country airport in the middle of nowhere is seriously false economy,...

Don%26#39;t forget to add in all the Ryan Air extra%26#39;s! Including not always flying you where, and when you paid for.
