Dark, Stout or Porter Beer

Any suggestions for a brewhaus that has stout, porter, or dark beer?

all the beergardens and brewery associated establishments have %26#39;Dunkel%26#39; beer...dark beer... i dont think %26#39;porter%26#39; translates into a German equivalent... stout like Guiness is not a German thing... you can get derivatives of dark and strong beer... Dunkles, Alt, Stark, etc

I had a few dunkels last year and they looked similar to stouts and porters but tasted totally different. The old Augustiner had a good dunkel. I also like Ayinger%26#39;s Celebrator, which is a doppelbock and is absolutely wonderful. I think that I remember seeing an Ayinger establishment in old town Munich but I am not sure. I am going this October for only my second time so maybe my advice isn%26#39;t the best.

If you like your dark/dunkeles beer with a bit of caramel, the Hofbrauhaus does a great job. The Andechs dunkeles is absolutely superb -- you%26#39;ll find the restaurant/beer garden (small) just behind the Frauenkirche. Really good food, too.

...without going too much into brand names of beers, all of the large breweries make dark beer and many will make a special stong beer during the %26#39;Starkbierfest%26#39; which was held just a while ago. Thus EVERY place will have a dark beer on tap. The dark can often be a dark %26#39;lager%26#39; or a dark %26#39;wheat%26#39;... I am not referring to %26#39;clubs%26#39; or %26#39;pubs%26#39;... and lets be brutally honest here, many of the large breweries have subtle changes to the taste of their beer and if put side by side you probably wont notice much of a difference after the first one...

In Germany I would not want to look for an English style beer but as others have said a dunkel would be good also Scwhartz Bier is good and in in bamberg look for Rauchbier (smoke beer) it is awesome in Dusseldorf try an alt bier or look for a nice Dopplebock i do like the Paulaner Salvatore Mayb that be the next beer i will brew
