Drive Koblenz - Frankfurt info

Hi

I%26#39;ll be in Germany from sept 12 to 19

Girlfriend and I are driving around a few cites during our stay.

Our last day will consist of driving from Koblenz to Frankfurt for our next morning flight.

We have the entire day to get back... how long is the drive? is the scenic route really worth it?

I plan on stopping at a few different spots (pictures, eat ...) any suggestions along the way

I plan on coming back from the %26quot;east side%26quot; (not sure if this is how you name it.. but I want to cross over the Rhin at Koblenz and drive south

Thanks

Middle Rhine Valley is definitely worth it.

Either the route suggested by abalada, or if you take the autobahns, you should get to the FRA airport in about 2 hours. The early part of the autobahn is quite scenic, then it besomes spaghetti junction.

If you have done most of your sightseeing by then, why not drop your car in Koblenz and take the train directly to the Frankfurt airport on the day of your departure?

For schedules, see www.bahn.de Enter Koblenz Hbf. and Frankfurt Flughafen, Fernbahnhof

If you have the entire day, I would just head south along the Rhine, stops in Boppard, St. Goar, Bacharach, further to Bingen, cross the ferry over to Rudesheim and then head into Frankfurt. Depending on the time you leave Frankfurt the next day you can stay in Rudesheim (about an hour to the airport)overnight and still get to Frankfurt in plenty of time.

The website above from Abalada gives the highlights. Click on the %26quot;viewpoints%26quot;. There are excellent stops in Boppard and Rudesheim where you can take a chairlift up to the Gedeonseck (Boppard) and Niederwald monument in Rudesheim (you can also drive up to this one) for some excellent views of the Rhine.

If you want to ferry across from Bingen to Rudesheim, look for the Fahre signs, it is a bit difficult to find, but worth it. Drive on and drive off on the other side.
