Driving Frankfurt to Prague

We will be driving from Frankfurt to Prague.I understand it is a 6 or 7 hr drive. Are there any good places to stop on the way and sightsee?

I think driving Frankfurt to Prague in one day is pushing it, especially if you want to %26quot;stop (in) good places and sightsee%26quot;.

If you give me the maximum time you are planning for this trip, I can give you some good suggestions, not all on the %26quot;direct%26quot; route.

Another question: What do you plan to do with the rental car when you get to Prague. Dropping it off there (or anywhere else outside of Germany) will cost you a heavy cross-border drop-off charge.

Finally, you must tell the rental car agent that you will take the car into the Czech Republic. This will severely limit the choice of car you will be able to get. There is a great (justified or not justified) theft fear among rental car companies about cars being taken to the former Eastern countries, and they will not let you have a make/model on their %26quot;frequent theft%26quot; list.

Thank You. We will not be flying out of prague but we will be heading to switzerland for a week after a few days in prague. We have a few days spare between prague and switzerland and were wondering where to stay. possibly Munich but we know very little of europe. We have teenagers and a 4 yr old with us.

Prague is not exactly a car friendly city, thus I would not role out to get there by train.

Things you should be aware of

- to drive into the Czech Republic you need the permission of the rental company. This will rule out at least some types of cars.

- international drop off fees can be really steep. Also if you plan to return in Switzerland.

- for driving on Czech and Swiss autobahns you need a vignette (toll sticker)

Do you plan to drive directly from Frankfurt Airport to Prague - I would not recommend such a long drive after a long flight - or are you staying there overnight?

Don%26#39;t underestimate the traffic density and the attention on driving you need here. Esp. the A3 from Frankfurt to Nuremberg is prone to traffic jams.

A short stopover would not be sufficient for the main attractions en route (e.g. Würzburg, Bamberg, Nuremberg). For them you would better stay there overnight.

Two nice towns next to this route.

- Herzogenaurach (shortly before Nuremberg)

This town is best known as the headquarter of Adidas and Puma

- Amberg

Nearly perfectly on the middle of this route.
