Rail pass will be the better option to buying p2p tickets on spot.

Discounted specials for the trips in Germany will cost less, but unlike a rail pass these specials are only valid for the connections bought for. Depends also when you want to travel. You can book the specials earliest 89 days in advance. But the specials are limited in numbers and sell out fast.

No. But it covers e.g. the paddle steamers on the Swiss Alpine lakes.

The passses of the Swiss travel system do cover also the trams. An option if you decide for discounted specials to/in Germany.
