The %26quot;1000 Places to See Before You Die%26quot; book includes Regensburg, although it%26#39;s not discussed at all in the ever popular Rick Steves%26#39; Germany book.
We will be driving from Prague and have 2 nights before our last night in Germany which we plan to spend in Frankfurt.
I have considered various options--but I am now thinking 1 night Regensburg and 1 night Rothenburg. We are intereted more in castles, palaces, medieval history rather than World War II/Nazi history (why we aren%26#39;t going to Nurnberg.) Also considered Dinkelsbuhl/Rothenburg, Rothenburg/Heidelberg, or 2 nights in Rothenburg. We would like to spend one night in Rothenburg as Rothenburg at night sounds like Toledo, Spain--beautiful after all the day tourists have left.
Any advice or alternatives appreciated.
Thanks.

I have been to Regensburg a number of times and would recommend it to anyone who is anywhere near. It is a beautiful city, well preserved, on the Danube and I would go back encourage a stop.

I think Regensburg and Rothenburg are a good combination.
we have visited Regensburg twice in the last 4 years and are going back for 2 nights during the Advent season. I am very partial to the river front and the Gothic cathedral. My wife much liked the tour of the Thurn and Taxis palace. The down town is a series of plazas connected by narrow roads and alleyways.
Rothenburg is by our tastes one of the most photogenic spots in Germany. It is delightful at night, as is Regensburg.
Regards, Gary
