Hi all- I%26#39;m going to be in Frankfurt Aug. 29th-31 with four friends. We want to attend the Museum Festival on the river. Has anyone been to this? and if so, is it easier to get a hotel in Frankfurt or should i stay in Mainz perhaps and we can take the train in? We%26#39;ll have a rental car, but I know sometimes it saves a lot of headache to try not to navigate a car in the midst of downtown. :D We%26#39;d like to stay within a moderate budget (nothing too extravagant). Thanks!!

Oh, this is a great festival, my favorite of them all.
I don%26#39;t think hotels get booked up like they do for trade fairs. You might want to look for a hotel on the outskirts of town. A car is not very useful in Frankfurt, driving is a hassle and finding parking spots difficult and expensive if you are using a parking garage.
Try looking at Motel One on Hanauerlandstrasse. Their rates are good, decor is nice, the staff there have been very friendly, and it isn%26#39;t in the city center so you should have parking available and the tram #11 runs right past the hotel which will take you straight into the city. Get off at Römer/Paulskirche. The festival starts right on the other side of the Römer.
We had 3.5 million people at this 3 day fest last year, so it is great party. Good chance to see all the museums, as well as find unique hand-crafted art and other items. Lots of shows going in the museum gardens as well as along the river. A whole lot of ethnic food at this festival too.
See you there!
