which Residenz is best

I see there are Residenzs in both Wurzburg and Munich and wondering if we had to choose one to tour is there a %26quot;best%26quot; for opulence, etc and also the Nymphenburg Palace seems to be about the same so, even though I know each is probably wonderful ,in a short vacation we have to make choices and hope to get a few reviews.thanks.

The Würzburg Residence is IMO more opulent and has more to offer. It is more Italian in style. The Nymphenburg palace is different - it is in a large garden area and the palace itself is older, in a different style.

I found the Residenz in Wuerzburg to be simply gorgeous. Very opulent. If you go, make sure you go on one of the free English tours at 11 or 1500 as they take you into the South Wing. If you do not go on a tour, you don%26#39;t get to go over there. The Hof Chapel was also about as gilt and ornate as a church could get. Really fabulous.

Haven%26#39;t been to Nymphenburg, so cannot compare.

The Residenz in Wuerzburg of course has the ceiling painting by Tiepolo in the entryway, which is the only remaining part of the original palace that wasn%26#39;t destroyed in WW II. The restored rest is very nice also. I have never been in Nymphenburg Palace, but it probably has also been largely restored after the war. The largest perfectly preserved (all original) Baroque palace (in www.schloesser-und-gaerten.de ) in Germany, the Swabian Versailles, is in Ludwigsburg ( www.ludwigsburg.de ), just north of Stuttgart, and has the longest and best palace tour that I%26#39;ve been on in Europe plus several other days of excellent other things to see such as the extensive gardens and the fashion museum with lots of clothes from the 1700s. Germany%26#39;s largest Baroque palace is in Mannheim, again highly restored, but they have just finished restoring the interiors of a few additional rooms.

Nympenburg palace is far away from the city center or any industrial sites, so it didn´t receive a lot of bomb damage.
