Romantic Road sights

Hello,

My friend and I are leaving for an express mini tour of Europe in the next fortnight; leaving England and going on a road-trip through nine countries in just over two weeks. We want to squeeze in as much sightseeing and drinking as possible in that time and I was wondering if anyone could pass on any slices of insider’s knowledge or recommendations for our destinations.

We’ve only got about one day/night in each destination before moving on so if you’ve anything interesting, exciting and stunning for us to see or do I’d really appreciate it. We’ll be staying in hostels or camping so any recommendations would also be great.

Anyway, I was hoping you could help me out for the Romantic Road, Many thanks in advance.

Rom road isn%26#39;t a destination, but a normal highway that links towns of varying interest between Aschaffenburg and Fueseen ( the one being near Frankfurt and the other at the foot of the Alps).

So, you need to decide where -if at all- you%26#39;re going to stop along it.

My thought is Rothenburg ob d T, but depends on where you plan to travel from/to and between, and by what mode, I guess.

or better %26quot;Fuessen%26quot;!

Interesting are the sights along this touristic road. Not the road as such. Most prominent locations are Würzburg (start point), Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Füssen (end point). To save travel time you can use the parallel autobahn A7 between these places.

Wow thank you for your quick replies.

I think we%26#39;re travelling by car from Munich and back down to the start at Fussen, all the way to Wurzburg if that helps.

As abalada says, if you%26#39;re not going to take the time to stop and see things along the way (and with your schedule, probably impossible), why drive the for the most part slower ordinary two lane German highway, drive the A7 autobahn instead. It will be much faster and allow you more time to visit Neuschwanstein Palace close to Fuessen, the walled medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, and the Residenz Palace in Wuerzburg, considered to be the three highlights of the Romantic Road and all close to the A7 autobahn. Of course, by doing this you will be joining your fellow tourist hordes in at least two of these places. Ashaffenburg is a long ways from the Romantic Road, much closer to Frankfurt than Wuerzburg which is on the road.

If you are planning on doing as much drinking as possible combined with as much sightseeing as possible, then you might want to think about taking a train rather than driving.

Please do not drive after drinking.
