Place to camp during wine fest

We have a group that is going to be doing some extensive tasting at the Bernkastel wine fest the first week in September. I tried booking a hotel about four months ago, and there were none within walking distance, so I was hoping to just pitch a tent somewhere along the river and we could stumble our way back at the end of the night. Does anyone know the rules for this? Also, are there any official camp sights? I have seen RV%26#39;s parked along the river, but never really looked into it. My husband and I just slept in the bed of our truck last year, but as there are going to be more of us this year I wanted to find a more hospitable place. Thanks.

We camped there last year for the festival and it was great. The campe site is on the opposite side of the river (from the festival side) and it is about 1/4 mile down the river. The campsite is easy to find, as you decend into the town (on the Krues side) follow signs to camping. You cannot pre-book to camp there, but they open up a large field just for that weekend for people to pitch a tent beginning Friday morning. We arrived Friday after work and got spots easily. They also had hot showers and nice bathrooms. I would definitely recommend!!! Have fun.
