We are going to visit in early September. Our understanding is that Caracella%26#39;s wonderful pools are for swimsuits, but the sauna upstairs is enjoyed bare.
When in Rome or Baden Baden ... We presume that the sauna%26#39;s are mixed gender. What do we do with the swimsuits? We are trying not to be awkward tourists. Thank you Jan %26amp; Steve

Attention, spelling police here: it´s Caracalla. ;-)
You have a changing area upstairs and small hangers where you put your swimsuits. You can be assured they will still be there when you need them.

One thing I learnt the hard way is to take 2 towels - 1 to take to the sauna and use there and have a second dry one waiting in your locker for when you leave.

Hi,
You%26#39;re right that Caracalla%26#39;s pools downstairs are for swimsuits. There are also steam rooms downstairs that are for swimsuits also.
The bare part is indeed upstairs, you go up a spirally staircase to reach it, and as soon as you enter this area your swimsuits come off, and there are lockers right there that you can store them in.
Keep a towel with you in the upstairs spa area, and make sure you use this to sit down on in the saunas, and you can leave it hanging outside the steam rooms. Make sure you visit the outdoor saunas upstairs also.
Enjoy it, it%26#39;s quite liberating, and a good experience.
