We shall be in Berlin at Easter with a group of friends including a teenager who is a coeliac. Anyone know of cafes and restaurants which cater for coeliacs? Or of a website with listings?
I know we can study menus closely and ask lots of questions (and I can cook too) but but I would like him to be able to eat more than salad and chips when we are out !

I hope the following will help you (if you can%26#39;t read German, tell me and I%26#39;ll translate the essential details):
zoeliakie-treff.de/zoeliakie/zoeliakie104.ht…
www.qype.co.uk/de300-berlin/tag/glutenfrei

We have found it helpful to have a written explanation of what celiac/coeliac is in German to give to the waiter/waitress. Please copy and paste the link below to get a free restaurant card.

We also make it a point to find a grocery store to buy snacks. Reformhaus is the German word for healthfood store. Berlin should have more than one. I have never been to Berlin. Do any of the department stores have health food sections?
We will be traveling in Berlin this summer, so if anyone else has any gluten-free recommendations, I would appreciate it.

Thanks for those. Unfortunately Zoeliakie-treff I am %26quot;unauthorised to open%26quot; so can%26#39;t pursue that one at the moment. Any suggestions how to get into it?
Both I and the boy involved speak fluent German so deciphering menus and asking questions is no problem. The bakery Diafana will be useful when we are near Museumsinsel and I will check out the supermarkets and Reformhäuser and Bioläden(and will report back).
I shall be flying in from UK and have already discovered Tesco%26#39;s gluten-free and dairy-free ranges so will be taking corn spaghetti, bread, sauces in the luggage. It%26#39;s the problem of meals out I%26#39;m trying to crack esp. in the centre near sights (Mitte and Charlottenburg).
By the way Asterope, the first line of the restaurant card should read %26quot;Ich leide an einer Glutenunverträglichkeit%26quot; (The G got missed)

Hello,
There are many supermarkets that have glutenfree products in Berlin. You can find them in all the Bioladens (eg. Biolüske, Alnatura). Edeka markt also has some glutenfree products. A restaurent Diafana as you already know provides glutenfree products. Drogeriemarkt %26quot;dm%26quot; also has some range of glutenfree things.
I hope it was useful. Have a nice trip.

Thanks. I will bear those places in mind if I have to do it again (it was Easter last year!).
We managed OK last time with pasta and a sauce from England plus what I cooked from scratch.
Meals out at Diafana, a Maredo (he had steak) and the Mövenpick near Sanssouci palace. And he did hand over the cards which they took to the kitchen.
I also bought a loaf at Diafana but if you pre-order there%26#39;s more choice from them.
|||
I hope for you that Diafana is not closed - last time that I was in the region, the shop hall was in renovations.

Yes Lylou, I%26#39;ve just tried to look at the website and %26quot;Keine Beiträge vorhanden%26quot; so it does look like it%26#39;s closed now.
I had a query re Edeka branches to help any future searchers here. Rosemary do you know if Edeka in Friedrichstrasse station or the one near Hackesche Höfe stocks gluten-free products?
These would be useful addresses as they are so central on tourist routes. I sometimes shop at the Edeka at Friedrichstrasse en route from the airport to our apartment (use the tram).Obviously I can check this out on my next visit but flying into SXF won%26#39;t be till late April trip.

Hi,
I %26amp; am taking my parents (1 of which is a coeliac), to Berlin this Christmas %26amp; was wondering if anyone could recommend any more restaurants, cafe%26#39;s %26amp; supermarkets?
I will take the cards, but prefer to have the knowledge before entering an establishment.
Cheers, Andy

This website might help as it is in English. Though it doesn%26#39;t list restaurants, it does give a lot of information for those traveling in Germany.
