From Munich to Zell Am Zee

Hello,

I%26#39;m planning to visit Zell Am Zee while my stay in Munich. However, what are the best and cheapest reliable way to get to Zell Am Zee from munich? because i%26#39;m planning to visit the city in one day going in the early morning and getting back at night same day? would it be fine or it would be hard to do it? please advice me with the trasports. thank you

Probably your best option (in case you can%26#39;t purchase Europa Spezial from DB) is Bavaria Ticket + Einfach-Raus-Ticket.

DB timetable

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

From: Munich

To: Zell am See

Quite some distance for a day trip.

Closer options to Munich:

http://www.mittenwald.de

http://www.berchtesgadener-land.info

http://www.fuessen.de

To these places inside Bavaria, albeit next to the Austrian border, you can use the Bavaria Ticket for a day trip. EUR 20,00 for 1 person. EUR 28,00 for 2-5 persons.

Thank you so much for the reply. These places looks amazing to me, and somehow exactly what im looking for to see. However, I%26#39;m not quite clear about the DB Bahn and how to book online? can%26#39;t i book while my stay in Munich? i checked the timetable web you%26#39;ve sent but i can%26#39;t really understand much of it!

one more thing, do u advice me to take a three day trip to each place you mentioned? or one day to all? please advice

%26gt; However, I%26#39;m not quite clear about the DB Bahn and how to book online? can%26#39;t i book while my stay in Munich?

I did not wrote that you have to book online - albeit this is possible. You can buy tickets on spot. No compulsory seat reservations on German and Austrian trains. On regional trains even not possible at all.

%26gt; one more thing, do u advice me to take a three day trip to each place you mentioned?

For sure possible, but I assume you have not enough time for this.

%26gt; or one day to all?

No. This won%26#39;t work.

These are places with nice Alpine scenery and closer to Munich than Zell am See. Thus better suited for a day trip. And as a side effect the day trip will also cost you less.

Of course you can stay at any of these places longer. There is enough in the vicinity of each for a couple of days.

These places can be reached fairly easy from Munich. Traveling between them - like traveling to Zell am See - means traveling through the Alps, which is rather slow and time consuming.

%26gt; I%26#39;m not quite clear about the DB Bahn and how to book online?

If you want to book Europa Spezial (cheap advance tickets) you have to do it long in advance, which is for you only possible online (since you won´t fly to Munich to just purchase cheaper tickets). By the time you are in Munich the cheap tickets will be sold out.

Normal tickets are always available, you can buy them when in Muncih. But they will be more expensive that the Bayern-Ticket + Einfach-Raus-Ticket that abalada suggested (both cheap mingiroup tickets valid only on local trains, both available any time, one for Bavaria, the other for Austria).

In short: you can get a ticket any time, but in some ways you can save money.

Thank you guys for the help. I know im kinda itchy but i really got confussed with the %26quot;Bavaria Ticket%26quot; please be patient with me as i have not much infos about train trip so far. abalada I will be staying enough in Munich for about 8 days and I have already booked a ticket at a hotel located in the city center that%26#39;s why im planning to give a one day for each place you adviced to see which i see amazing ones and not to miss. but still where can i purchase the bavaria tickets at Munich i know as altamiro said the cheap ones will be sold but what i care about now is where to get them and how to located the station ticket? will there will be a same day return? or one way daily? please advice with these sort of information of how to get there

Europa Spezial is the cheapest option to Zell am See. But this is a limited offer, i.e. these discounted specials sell out sooner or later. You can buy them earliest 89 days before traveling, latest 3 days before departure (if there are any left - unlikely). Such a ticket is only good for the connection bought for. No change. No refund.

Bavaria Ticket is a day ticket for local public transport in Bavaria. This offer is always available and you can buy it on spot from ticket machines or ticket counters (EUR 2,00 more expensive). Bavaria Ticket covers

- regional trains (RB,RE,ALX,BOB)

- S-Bahn

- U-Bahn (metro)

- trams

- buses

The restriction to regional trains only plays to destinations like Füssen or Mittenwald no role at all. There are no others anyway.

Than there is a time restriction, Bavaria Ticket is valid

Mo-Fr: from 9am till 3am next day

Sa,Su: from midnight till 3am next day

Bavaria Ticket Single (1 person) EUR 20,00

Bavaria Ticket (2-5 persons) EUR 28,00

For planing trips on the Bavaria Ticket use the DB timetable

reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en?

and select as means of transport %26quot;only local transport%26quot;.

Einfach-Raus-Ticket

is the Austrian equivalent to the Bavaria Ticket. But this ticket is only valid for 2-5 persons. Thus no option for a single traveler. Train and time restrictions are the same. EUR 28,00. You have to buy it in Kufstein or Salzburg (to these two stations in Austria the Bavaria Ticket is good for).

For a single person a SVV day ticket from Salzburg to Zell am See (costs exactly twice of a single ticket) is with EUR 25,60 anyway cheaper than the Einfach-Raus-Ticket.

Thank you so very much for these valuable information. and it is sounds clear now but a bet one more Q%26#39;s i will ask the hotel where to get the Bavaria ticket but which one to use to go the distants u mentioned above:

- S-Bahn or U-Bahn (metro)

and forsure there will be a notice in each stop where the station is in and going to. but still how can get back? should it the same ticket back using the Bavaria at the same day and same station. thank you and sorry for the detailed concerns

|||

Sorry, can you please explain your question again? I don´t really understand what you ask. Use the link Abalada provided to see how to get to your destination.

If you mean whether you need to buy another Bavaria-Ticket - it is a day ticket. You can use it all day long.
