Hi. My family of 3 will be arriving at Frankfurt Airport at 8.30pm. We are booked on an overnight train to Prague which leaves from Frankfurt (Main) Sud Station at 12.55am. Does this train go to the Airport station? If not, what is the best way (other than taxi) for us to get to the Sud Train Station? Thanks.

S8 or S9 from the local train station in the airport to any station between Hauptbahnhof and Ostendstrasse, then change to S3, S4, S5 or S6.

From: FRA Airport
to: Frankfurt Sued

Thanks so much!

If it was me, I would go upstairs to the Fernbahnhof and take the ICE train to the Frankfurt Main Station. The ticket machine for the S Bahn is confusing (ok, for me impossible to figure out) and the trains aren%26#39;t so nice. At the Fernbahnhof they have a ticket agent.

Bus (#61) is also an option.
Terminal 1 dep 23:50
Terminal 2 dep 23:55
Südbahnhof arr 00:20
As long as you stick to local public transport (regional trains, S-Bahn, U-Bahn, trams, buses) the price is the same. Single ticket is EUR 3,70 (children 6-14y EUR 2,20). If you want to make a stopover in the city centre for lunch you can buy a day ticket for EUR 14,00 instead (is valid past midnight till 3am).
ICE trains are not built for commuting short distances (e.g. 2 small doors per car, while at S-Bahn trains one third of the whole car lenghts are doors). Certainly nicer, but for a 10 minute trip this don%26#39;t play any role. DB tries to keep out the commuters of these trains by the price. Instead of EUR 3,70 this trip would cost you EUR 12,50.

... can buy a MINI GROUP day ticket for EUR 14,00 instead.

Thanks to all of you for your helpful replies. I am now thinking of the bus option. Can the bus accomodate our luggage (1 suitcase each)? And is there an earlier bus, (as we would prefer to reach the train station earlier to give us more time to board the train)? Thanks.

You have already 35 minutes at the Südbahnhof, what do you need more time for? Even so you will have to wait for the train at the platform.
Otherwise, bus 61 is a normal city bus - it runs in regular intervals and has some (but not much) space that can be used for suitcases. I have never encountered a bus or tram where there would be no space for luggage at all.

You won%26#39;t be the first ones who enter this city bus at Frankfurt Airport with luggage.

Yes, e.g. at 22:50 and 23:20. But your train will arrive only a few minutes before departure at 00:55.
Frankfurt Süd is mainly a commuter train station. Only used by a few trains to bypass Frankfurt Hbf (the central train station) as this is a terminus station which would require change of driving direction and probably also of the loco.
Frankfurt Süd is not the most entertaining place to spent your waiting time at. Spent your waiting time either at Frankfurt Airport or in central Frankfurt (using the mini group day ticket).

Thanks to all of you for your help. I am now clearer about the Frankfurt Sud station situation.
