My boyfriend and I are taking a car from Munich to Salzburg, then Salzburg to Vienna over 5 days. We have these parts of the trip booked. My problem is what to do for two days after Vienna before we have to get back to Munich airport? We have spent a few days in Munich itself last year but this time I would like to see more of the countryside/attractions that are outside the city. We will be there the last week of August so I need to book accomodation asap! Is it easier to just book somewhwere in central Munich and go for day trips? Any advise is greatly appriciated :-)

Freising is the perfect place to stay last night before a flight out of Munich Airport. Close with frequent direct bus connections.

I second the suggestions above for Fresing and Regensburg. Both are excellent choices.
