Munich Rail Travel During Oktoberfest

I will be attending my first Oktoberfest this year. I%26#39;m traveling with two friends. We plan to travel from Prague to Munich on 9/27 and from Munich to Milan on 10/1. Is it necessary to buy rail tickets in advance? I haven%26#39;t purchased tickets in advance on my previous trips, but I imagine that the trains to/from Munich could be full.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Where are you before Prague?

It would not harm to reserve seats for these trips. You can still buy tickets later but on the other site if you buy in advance you may get cheap specials for these trips.

CD online shop

https://eshop.cd.cz/international/info.aspx…

Prague - Munich for EUR 29,00

DB timetable

http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

From: Munich

To: Milan

To: Verona

You%26#39;ll get only specials for direct trains into Italy. And most of these end in Verona where you%26#39;ll have to change for Milan. You could buy the Verona - Milan ticket on spot in Verona.

Thanks for the information abalada. The CD shop has a much better price for the Prague -%26gt; Munich trip than I found previously on DB Bahn.

CD shop doesn%26#39;t let me purchase tickets this far in advance, but it looks like they should be available in the next few weeks. If I buy the ticket through CD shop, will I get an electronic tickets or will they be mailed to me?

I will watch for specials to Verona. As of today, DB Bahn lists tickets to Verona for 81,90 EUR, which is not much less than the direct ticket to Milan (97,90 EUR).

Thank you again for your help!!!

I forgot to mention, we are in Amsterdam before Prague. We are planning to take either a Sky Europe flight or a night train to Prague. We%26#39;re going to wait to buy tickets since Sky Europe is having financial problems.

Thanks again!

Not really a surprise that during Oktoberfest all specials to Italy are already gone. In this case buy of course the standard fare ticket for EUR 97,90 to Milan. I would still recommend to do this soon. Not that the price will change, but the EC trains to Italy require compulsory reservation (included in the ticket price). Which means they can be completely booked. And during Oktoberfest they will.
