Does anybody have any feedback on Avis in Munich? I%26#39;m planning to pick up the car somehwere in the city to avoid the extra charge. My hotel is right around the main rail station in Munich.
I%26#39;m planning to drive for a few weeks and then drop off the car in Frankfurt..
My only concern.. Easy rental pickup and a car with good GPS.
So far it seems Avis has better pricing then Gemut, Hertz, and others.
Thanks for your feedback..

I am not certain about the GPS feature in Avis rentals, but I do know that Hertz has a nice setup in their cars. From everything that I have heard the past two years, no worries with Avis. They have a nice selection of cars, decent rates, easy pickup, etc. If you are over 25, major credit card, etc. No worries.

I think the hassle of picking up in town is MUCH greater than the airport charge to be honest. From UK, Sixt is cheaper than Avis, and they%26#39;re right on the airport.
Have you tried the car bucket shops for deals? We here seem to be able to get about 30% off if booking in advance. BTW: I probably have done the MUC -FRA thing about 15-20 times, so I%26#39;m not talking out of my hat!
Munich%26#39;s not horrible to drive, but I%26#39;d always avoid it if I could.

I live in Munich and try to book a car with AVIS some days ago. People also told me that price is cheaper. Anyway, the person who talked with me on the phone told me straigh that they don%26#39;t have the transport available. Afterwards, I%26#39;ve asked from when they will have available? He told me in 2 weeks and is not sure. Funny huh?
Then I%26#39;ve asked a %26#39;german colleague%26#39; to phone for me (2 minutes later) and he check with the colleague and with the computer to see if they still had any transporter available and told her that: yes, we have something for you. Can pick up tomorrow if you need (and price was cheap).
I%26#39;ve reported the case already to Germany heardquarters and USA Headquarters (since Avis is American). Anyway, very disappointed. :(

I will actually stay in Munich for a few days before I pickup the car. I was thinking it would be more of a headache to go back to the airport to pickup a car? Not to mention is will cost me 20-25% more for the total rental..
Is driving in Munich that bad?

Driving in Munich isn%26#39;t that bad. I picked up a car in November at the Airport and dropped off in Munich at tail end of trip. The Munich location I dropped off (Nymphenburger Strasse 61, location code 61) was about a 2 block walk to the S Bahn stop so it was very convenient.
Don%26#39;t use GPS so can%26#39;t help you there and I always book with Avis when traveling in USA and overseas and have never had a problem.

Sorry, that should say Avis location code MC1.

20 p c is an amazing difference -it%26#39;s 20 euro from here between airport and town.
Munich%26#39;s not awful, just more awful than open road from airport. Go for it!
